About Javier Collado
Fine artist living and working in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Javier Collado Llantin is a fine artist based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born and raised in Puerto Rico. He started his art education in the Liga de Artes de San Juan in 2004. Upon graduating from high school in 2005 he proceeded to start his Bachelors in Fine Arts at the Escuela de Artes Plasticas de Puerto Rico. In 2009 he left Puerto Rico and moved to Concord, North Carolina. After a 4 year hiatus from education, in 2013, he then proceeded to restart his Bachelors in Fine Arts at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Currently he is diligently finishing his degree with a painting concentration. His work has developed around different subjects such as identity, personal experience, and the effects of pop culture on our life. In 2018 he shifted his focus to more social issues and activism. Moreover, his current work focuses on the situation in Puerto Rico after the passing of hurricane Maria in 2017. His new project Boats for Puerto Rico has reached communities in states such as New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, California, Florida, Massachusetts, and the territory of Puerto Rico. He hopes to keep using his art to help with the present issues in Puerto Rico and other Hispanic American countries.
